Southern California has a wide range of beautiful public campgrounds to chose from, and tent camping in southern California is sure to be a vacation that your family always remembers. No matter what time of year it is, tent camping in southern California will be enjoyable, and your family will want to return year after year.

A great place for tent camping in southern California is the coast, especially around the San Diego area. Tent camping in southern California allows you to take advantage of the numerous outdoor recreation opportunities in the area. For example, San Elijo State Beach can provide an ocean camping experience with beautiful campgrounds available for you. In the vicinity you and your family can enjoy many recreation activities, such as swimming, picnicking, fishing, hiking, biking, diving, and even snorkeling or diving at a reef. South Carlsbad State Beach is another great beach camping location that will provide your family with a unique camping experience.

For other destinations for tent camping in southern California, check out the many national forests in the area. These camping areas may be less crowded and quieter than beach campgrounds, but no less amazing in regards to scenery and outdoor recreation opportunities. You can enjoy boating, fishing, and especially great hiking trails during your camping stay.

Tent camping in southern California at state and national parks is a good choice for your family because the state park campgrounds offer many convenient amenities. Besides recreation opportunities, you may have access to restrooms, picnic tables, information resources, grills, and clean water. Exhibits and programs offered at many start parks are a great learning opportunity for the entire family. Some state parks, such as San Elijo State Beach, even offer wi-fi services. Don't forget to call ahead and make your campground reservations if you are planning to go tent camping in a southern California state park.

Tent camping in southern California will be much the same as tent camping elsewhere in the country. You can save much money on your family vacation by having the free accommodations available of your tents. In southern California, you will most likely be tent camping in warm weather, and a tent that allows breezes to pass through and cool you off during the night is a good choice. Also, you may encounter wet weather, so it is a good idea to bring along a tarp, which can easily be purchased online for as low as ten dollars. The tarp will not only protect you from the wet ground, but it will also help prevent your tent from becoming torn or damaged.
