Your Guide to Southern California RV Camping

from:

If you think of the skyscrapers of LA or the Hollywood sign when you think of Southern California, then you need to think again. While Los Angeles is definitely a must see draw to the area, and the possibility of glimpsing the most recent Hollywood starlet tantalizes the masses of people who throng Sunset Boulevard, there is far more to Southern California than the big city. Southern California RV camping is also something that brings many people to the Sunshine State. And, like fine wines and movies, RVing is something that California does like no other place on Earth.

If you are thinking about coming to experience what Southern California RV camping has to offer, then there are some things that you should know and some things you should make decisions on before you leave. The first thing you need to do is make a decision about where you want to go: the coast, the city, or a nature park, or maybe even Disney Land. Or maybe you have some where else in particular. But you need to decide where you are going so that you can make arrangements about where you want to stay.

If you are unsure about where exactly you want to go, but know that you just want to do some Southern California RV camping, then you might consider some of the following places. For a good beach campground, Carpinteria, Malibu Creek, Point Mugu, and Refugio are hard to beat with their combination of full service beachside towns and awesome surf. On the other hand, you might try Anaheim and Disney Land, which is a very popular destination for families. Disney has set up a full service campground to serve the park. Southern California RV camping is also a very good way to explore the great outdoors. Parks such as Joshua Tree and Torrey Pines demonstrate the diversity of California's outdoor landscapes.

Once you have decided where you want to go, you should start thinking about when. During the summer months, pretty much all of Southern California's campground can be very packed, so you will want to book ahead. Southern California RV camping can be a lot of fun, but also a large headache if not planned ahead enough. The most popular beaches can fill up months in advance: so plan accordingly.

California is also notorious for its freeways, and navigating them with a large RV can be an interesting experience. The coastal highways, especially, can be bumper to bumper for miles during the summer during peak hours, so, if at all possible, try to schedule your arrival and departure times from campgrounds around rush hour traffic. It is better to sit on the beach, in a museum, or in a cafe than in traffic.

Return to fishing is like a return to youth for Colorado reporter

As a Colorado native, I had what I considered to be a pretty typical Denver childhood. Sure, there were lots of afternoons spent running through the sprinkler, jumping on my cousin's trampoline and playing basketball with the neighbors. But more important were the weekend road trips.
