A dutch oven is a great piece of cooking equipment to take with you on your camping trip. Dutch oven camping recipes allow you to bake, producing satisfying meals that may taste even better than the ones you prepare at home in your own kitchen. Dutch ovens are also good for roasting, boiling, frying and braising. A dutch oven, also known as a camping oven, is simply a thick-walled metal cooking vessel that comes with a tightly-fitting lid.

Many dutch oven camping recipes include using the dutch oven as a baking vessel. For example, campers can place a pan inside the oven, removing it when the dish is done and adding another dish inside where the temperature has been maintained. Complicated dishes have been achieved around the campfire this way, including bread, biscuits, pizza and pie. Dutch oven camping recipes include a wide range of dishes. Many dutch oven dishes are the same that can be prepared in a real kitchen. Dutch oven camping recipes can often be a traditional recipe that is slightly altered to make it appropriate for around the campfire.

Popular dutch oven camping recipes include stews, dumplings, biscuits, and beans. • ½ stick of butter or margarine spread on the bottom of the dutch oven
• 1 box of your favorite cake mix, such as white or yellow cake dumped in next
• 1 can of your favorite canned fruit, such as cherries or pineapple, emptied on top
• Slightly stir all ingredients
• Place the dutch oven on a bed of hot coals
• Bake until done, between 30 minutes and one hour. Test by inserting a knife to see if it comes out clean

If a hearty meal is what you are after, offering meat and vegetables to fuel you at the end of a tiring day with nature, try dutch oven camping recipes for stews. These recipes provide great flavor without much of a hassle. For one of the heartiest dutch oven camping recipes, place some stew meat with water in your dutch oven that is over hot coals. As the meat gets tender, add your favorite vegetables, such as potatoes, onion, carrots, and celery. Some packaged stew seasoning can add great flavor. Stir and let the stew simmer until you are ready to dig in.
