Lightweight Camping Gear
from:If you are preparing for a hiking trip, you will want to make sure that lightweight camping gear is packed for your trip, and keep in mind that you will be carrying this items for miles each day. Therefore, you don’t want to over pack and bring unnecessary items. There is a large selection of lightweight camping gear available on the market not only for hikers, but also for those who wish to avoid using the traditional bulky and heavy equipment.
There is a range of lightweight camping gear available at any local sports store or online. Depending on your journey and how far you plan on travelling and your means of travelling you will want to keep that in mind when purchasing your lightweight camping gear. If you are hiking just a few hours to reach your destination where you will remain for the rest of your trip, then you will be able to pack more items in your pack. However if your journey calls for you to hike continuously for days, setting up and taking down your camp every night, then you will want to pack considerably less items.
Some lightweight camping gear that is available is a range of tents, from one man tents to four man tents. If you are hiking with a group, it is best for each man to carry his own one man tent, rather than one man carry the four man tent, as it is heavier and a big burden. It is ideal for each person to carry a three pound tent and a two pound sleeping bag. There are sleeping bags that are available which are made from down or synthetic material that is lightweight and easy to manage. Compact stoves or burners that fold up and make for easy storage is also a good choice as well as titanium pots, pans or cups as they are much lighter than aluminium.
When deciding on what lightweight camping gear to pack, look at each item and decide how important that item is and whether or not it has more than one use. This will help eliminate useless items from your pack. One useful tip is to consider using water purification tablets or a device that will purify and filter your water, as this will avoid having to carry several containers of water.
When looking for lightweight camping gear, you will want to make sure that it will suit your needs. If you will be hiking in cold conditions, don’t opt for the thinner sleeping back because it’s lighter, instead go for the heavier sleeping bag and eliminate items from your pack to make up for the extra weight. Also, by using hiking poles you will help ease and distribute the weight of your pack.
